Graduate Research Fellows Study Abroad with GROW

The National Science Foundation (NSF) recently launched Graduate Research Opportunities Worldwide (GROW) for Graduate Research Fellows who wish to expand their research opportunities by participating in international programs. According to NSF Director Subra Suresh, “GROW will prepare NSF Graduate Research Fellows to engage successfully in the global research enterprise by connecting them to leading scientists and research infrastructure around the world.” GROW is currently open only to active Fellows of the Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP).

GROW expands on a program NSF already sponsors with Norway, Finland, Denmark, and Sweden. Now, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and France will be included, with plans to add partners from other countries in the coming months. Graduate Fellows will be hosted in a partnering country from three to 12 months while they work with a participating scientific agency. While pursuing their research, fellows will receive a living allowance from the host country and are eligible for a travel allowance from NSF. For more information on how to apply, visit www.nsf.gov/grow

Graduate students considering any study abroad program should begin by registering and logging in to the UCF Study Abroad Online System at http://studyabroad.ucf.edu. The website contains important information about factors to consider when selecting a study abroad program, scholarships and financial aid sources, health and safety information, as well as social and cultural considerations. Before embarking on any international travel, students should obtain the appropriate insurance and participate in a health and safety orientation.
