A Nurse, Researcher and Professor

Diane Andrews, PhDDiane Andrews, PhD, RN, an Associate Professor in the College of Nursing holds a doctorate in public affairs, a master’s degree in nursing service administration and a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She has studied nurse satisfaction and the role that structure and stressors associated with a nurse's job plays in retention.

Dr. Andrews coordinates the MSN track for nursing leadership and management, as well as the Executive DNP track. Her current research interests include environmental and worker analysis to gauge the impact and outcomes associated with employment within health care settings, particularly in light of current workforce projections. She also has a special interest in the physical and psychological stressors associated with work in a health care environment and the coping response of individuals to those stressors. Seeing her students achieve is the most rewarding aspect of her position. She enjoys teaching online courses because she can interact with students one-on-one and can help them tailor their learning to their career interests.

Dr. Andrews has published articles in numerous journals, including the Journal of Nursing Management, the Journal of Professional Nursing and Nursing Administration Quarterly. She is a reviewer for the International Journal of Public PolicyInternal Journal of Nursing Studies and Journal of Nursing Management. She has also presented at national and international conferences - most recently, at the 2012 State of the Science Congress on Nursing Research in Washington, D.C.
