Communication Students’ Go-to Girl Loves UCF’s Diversity

Kirsten SeitzKirsten Seitz is the Coordinator of Academic Advising for the Nicholson School of Communication Graduate Program, serving Communication graduate students from first inquiry to application to enrollment to graduation. She jokingly says, “If you are pursuing your Communication MA degree, I am your go-to girl.”

Shortly after moving from Michigan to Florida, Seitz got a job in the graduate program at the Nicholson School of Communication.  “I have been extraordinarily privileged to work with two great graduate directors, Dr. Burt Pryor and Dr. Harry Weger,” shares Kirsten. “Both gave me ample opportunity to explore and expand my skill set for the benefit of our graduate program.”

Seitz, who earned her BA in Interdisciplinary Studies, with emphases on communication, psychology, and music from UCF, loves the diversity of UCF’s student body. “Not only do our students come in every shape, size, color, and nationality, but they also have a unique experience that brings a different perspective to our courses and our campus,” says Kirsten. “I do the same tasks every semester but I get to tailor specifically to the needs of our students, and that is the main reason I love working in academia.”

The best part of her job is certifying students for graduation, Kirsten says. “It is so fulfilling to authorize someone’s degree and be a part of them achieving their goals. I love attending commencement to see these students walk across the stage—the transformation in just a few short semesters from new and nervous student to confident and competent graduate is beyond compare. I am so proud of our students.”

Kirsten’s favorite UCF memory is attending her first football game at the UCF Stadium, invited by a Communication graduate student on the football team. “I had so much fun! The enthusiasm from ‘Zombie Nation’ is contagious!”
