UCF’s Cyber Defense Team out-maneuvered nine other finalists to win the 2014 Raytheon National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition last weekend in San Antonio, TX. The top ten national college and university teams battled to keep fictional businesses running while warding off a barrage of cyber-attacks. With the highest score at the end of the competition, the UCF team earned the right to return home with the Raytheon NCCDC Alamo Cup. A team photo will be displayed in Times Square in the coming weeks, and the students will be flown to Washington, D.C. over the summer to tour Raytheon’s Government Cyber Operations center.
The Collegiate Cyber Defense Club, founded in 2012, has quickly established itself as a top notch cyber-defense team. The team placed first in the Southeast Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition and tenth in the nation last year before going on to prevail as national champions at this year’s competition.
Recent attacks against major retailers and websites drive club members to educate the public by offering jargon-free advice for the average person. The goal of this dedicated team is to foster an information security-aware generation in central Florida.
