Texts and Technology Student Wins STEM Scholarship

Patricia Thomas, doctoral student in the Texts and Technology program, is one of five local women to be awarded a $1000 scholarship from the American Association of University Women (AAUW) -Orlando/Winter Park Branch. The AAUW awards scholarships to woman pursuing advanced degrees in the STEM fields.

Thomas is a certified information systems security professional concentrating on the interstices of literature and technology with an emphasis on coded narratives and interactive multimedia design. Her broad research interests include multiethnic U.S. literature, gender theory, and signposts of social membership.​

Other UCF recipients include Dawn Mills who is pursuing her PhD in Bio-Nano Chemistry with a special interest in genome research as it relates to cancer strain detection, and undergraduate Jennifer Torchalski who is working on her Bachelor of Science in environmental science, and who ultimately hopes to get a PhD in Marine Environmental Science.
