A Prestigious Honor

Order of Pegasus

Twenty students out of 80 nominations were inducted into the 2016 Order of Pegasus in February. These students are recognized for their exemplary performance and breadth of accomplishments.

Five graduate students have been given the Order of Pegasus, the highest and most prestigious student award that can be attained at the University of Central Florida. Awardees are selected based on academic achievement, professional or community service, leadership, and publication or research experience.

The 2016 Order of Pegasus recipients are:

  • Swetha Barkam, Material Science and Engineering PhD, College of Engineering and Computer Science
  • Christin Giordano, Doctor of Medicine, College of Medicine
  • Sarah Gitto, Biomedical Sciences PhD, College of Medicine
  • Joseph Grant, Sports Business Management MS, College of Business Administration
  • Melissa Westbrook, Dual Master's NonProfit Management and Public Administration, College of Health and Public Affairs

Students are nominated by a member of the university community and must go through a rigorous selection process. Order of Pegasus recipient' names and pictures are hung in the Pegasus Lounge, an area in the Student Union dedicated to awardees. They also receive commemorative medals, SGA Scholarships and lifetime memberships to the Alumni Association.
