Travel Fellowships Take Students to Germany

If you have some great research that you’d like to share with the world, don’t let the cost of a plane ticket stop you.  Graduate Travel Fellowships provide funding for enrolled master's, specialist, and doctoral students to share their research at national and international professional conferences.  Most recently, Graduate Travel Fellowships covered the costs of $650 plane tickets to Germany for several scholars.

In November, sixteen graduate students in UCF’s Counselor Education program headed to Heidelberg-Wiesloch, Germany, where they presented at the annual conference for the European Branch of the American Counseling Association.  Fourteen of those students were awarded Graduate Travel Fellowships to cover travel costs.  The four-day conference gave students the opportunity not only to present their research, but to learn from dozens of other presenters on a wide range of psychology topics.

UCF had a strong presence at the conference. Students presented about 16 posters, more than all the other presenting universities combined.  One of the themes of the UCF student research focused on issues relating to the mental health of men and women serving in the military.  This piqued the interest of mental health professionals working in the field with military bases and schools in Europe.

Emma Kendrick, a Counselor Education PhD student who attended for her second year in a row, presented information about the Community Counseling Clinic, part of a counselor education program.  She describes the trip as a learning experience and hopes to take advantage of the Graduate Travel Fellowship again next year.

For graduate students, a unique learning and traveling experience really is just a plane flight away.  For more information, visit the Graduate Travel Fellowship web page.
